Why Do You Feel What You Feel?

When we start growing up, all that is needed is taught but not what is required. The way we deal with our feelings is how we turn out in the end. The more we ignore the unseen, the more harm it does. It’s like a tsunami of new feelings finding their way out at once. We need to confront our emotions instead of confining them. We should make our mind and our heart a place where we would choose to live in forever. That’s what is responsible for how we feel despite not knowing why.

Why do you feel what you feel? It’s simple because you chose to. When we try to numb the hurt to avoid feeling miserable, it even shuts down the happy and positive thoughts. Because we don’t have the choice of selecting which emotions to cease, and that’s how we end up feeling void. Anything you think and feel in your mind makes you believe it. Don’t be a prisoner of your mind. Believe good things will happen, and they will. Let yourself feel the feelings but don’t let them conquer you. Be sad, angry, upset, happy, crabby but never let it take over you, rather drive the feelings to motivate you.

Not thinking of how we feel is like a coping mechanism for many. The more we believe, the more it affects us. Avoiding and not thinking of the pain does not change the fact it’s still thriving within. The more it thrives well, the more fragile it makes us. There are things we are sensitive about, and that’s what we need to work on. Something which we avoid thinking about and can’t be shared is what keeps us stuck in pain. The more we let ourselves feel the emotions we avoid, the more durable and comfortable we get in facing it. Locking in all the feelings will make us vulnerable, and letting them out will shape us towards a more robust version of our old selves.

Treat yourself the way you would have treated your loved one in their weak moments. Stop being harsh and blaming yourself for things that are not under your control. Whatever has to happen will happen. All we can do is control the way we react.
